Learners in Key Stage 3 and 4 become far more independent in their learning. The subject-orientated approach does not mean that Inquiry-based learning is disregarded. A stimulating and encouraging environment, a challenging programme, a strong support system and a flexible and multi-approach in teaching pedagogy provides the learners with the environment that they need to develop their talents and skills for their successful future.

Learners must also be provided with ample opportunities to exercise their social and cultural life, sports and artistic abilities and interests.

Key Stage 3 (KS3) – Form 1 and Form 2 Curriculum

What is the IMYC?

A challenging, engaging, internationally-minded, concept-focused curriculum designed specifically for the unique learning needs for 11-14 year olds in KS3/ lower secondary. However, the Cambridge Secondary 1 curriculum is used for English Language, Mathematics and General Science.

A KS3 curriculum

The International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) improves the way 11 – 14 year olds learn. It is specifically designed around the needs of the developing adolescent brain providing challenging, engaging, connected learning that young high school students find relevant and inspiring.

KS3 learning benefits of the IMYC

The IMYC is a rigorous academic platform that ensures the learning of knowledge, skills and understanding of subjects and supports the development of personal dispositions and international mindedness. At the end of each unit, students present their own understanding of the big idea to their teachers and class, to parents or even the whole school which can be in form of a media project. This gives students the opportunity to develop and present their own ideas, and to regularly practise and improve their communication and technological skills.

International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC)

The IMYC responds specifically to the unique needs through discrete subjects and themes, and by encouraging learning that helps them make connections that are relevant to their own lives. The IMYC involves active, skills-based learning, promotes self-reflection and the opportunity for students to make sense of their learning. It gives the students the opportunity to use the very latest media platforms to present their learning and express their thinking.
