Lechwe School’s Extra-Curricular Activities Programme offers a wide range of sports activities which cater for physical, social, cultural, intellectual and spiritual needs of the learners. These activities take place from 3pm until 4pm and on some occasions go up to 5pm if prior arrangements are made. A learner has to take part in at least one sport and one club activity per term. All these take place from Monday to Thursday. There are no ECA’s on Friday and the child should come home early unless there is some scheduled fixtures.
The type of sports offered here at Lechwe School will change from term to term depending on what type of season we are in and in line with ISAZ (Independent Schools Association of Zambia) programmes.
The emphasis is on developing basic fitness and foundation skills. Skills such as the ABC’s of movement. Agility, Balance, Coordination, Speed (Hand eye and foot coordination) endurance, and Jumping. Bringing excitement into playing sports activities is what the children need. This enables them to discover basic activities in speed, endurance, jumping, coordination, agility and balance (ABC’s). This helps them to make the most out of sports in terms of health, education and self fulfillment.
We have the following clubs which are not ISAZ sports but can offer a good variety of coaching for enjoyment of the sport: Golf, Tennis, Badminton, Chess, Cycling, Cricket, Pottery, Scripture Union, Community service, Secondary Band and Drama.
We have a swimming club namely the Cyclones, which operates independently but many of its members are Lechwe learners. We encourage Parents to let their children join the club as this helps them to learn and perfect their skills. The Cyclones have highly qualified coaches who are at their disposal.
